The legendary poet Longfellow in his poem “A Psalm of Life” penned the lines -

“Lives of great men all remind us

We can make our lives sublime,

                            And, departing, leave behind us

Footprints on the sands of time;”

kapadia_03The above lines truly capture the exemplary life of Late Shri Sarosh Homi Kapadia (former Chief Justice of India) who is immortalized in the world of justice.  In his Law Day speech at the Supreme Court Lawns[1], which gives an insight into his personality, he articulated that in the hierarchy of values, judicial integrity is above judicial independence.  The former CJI would be fondly remembered by the tax fraternity for his landmark judgments that echoed from his soul to the nib of the pen. He also endeared himself to accounts with his profound exhibition of knowledge in the field of accountancy.

The ground breaking verdicts made Justice Kapadia a game-changer.  His forte with law is traced to his humble beginnings with Shri Behramjee Jeejeebhoy, who had many land revenue and land-related disputes to settle.
